Overview:

Embark on a 10-day cultural safari through Eastern and Northeastern Uganda, where ancient kingdoms, vibrant traditions, and breathtaking landscapes weave together to tell the story of the “Pearl of Africa.”

This immersive journey begins in Kampala, the cultural heart of Uganda, and unfolds eastward through Jinja’s Nile waters, Mbale’s Elgon foothills, and the cascading Sipi Falls, before culminating in the rugged beauty of Kidepo Valley National Park — one of Africa’s most remote and rewarding wilderness areas.

From royal tombs and tribal dances to coffee farms and wild savannahs, this itinerary captures Uganda’s diversity — its people, wildlife, and spirit.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kampala

Welcome to Uganda! Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be met by your professional guide and transferred to your hotel in Kampala. Settle in, relax, and enjoy your first Ugandan meal as you prepare for the cultural adventure ahead.

Highlight: Evening views of Kampala’s lively skyline, where modern Africa meets centuries-old tradition.

After breakfast, begin your exploration of Kampala’s royal and historical landmarks. Your first stop is the Bahá’í Temple, Africa’s first Bahá’í House of Worship — a serene architectural gem atop Kikaya Hill.

Continue to the Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and resting place for four Buganda kings. Your guide will share the symbolism of the traditional thatched mausoleum and its sacred role in Buganda’s cultural identity.

Next, visit the Kabaka’s Palace (Mengo Palace) and learn about Buganda’s monarchy, colonial history, and the political transitions that shaped modern Uganda.

After lunch, stop at the Independence Monument on Nile Avenue — a national landmark representing Uganda’s emergence from British colonial rule in 1962.

After checking into your lodge, you will have lunch rest and head out for an afternoon cultural walk, cycling in the park or horse back riding.

This morning, depart Kampala for Jinja, known as the Adventure Capital of East Africa. Along the way, drive through Mabira Forest, one of Uganda’s largest remaining rainforests, and past lush tea and sugar plantations.

Arrive in Jinja and enjoy lunch overlooking the Nile, then take a boat trip to the Source of the Nile, where the great river begins its 6,650 km journey to Egypt.

In the afternoon, take a community walk through Jinja’s friendly neighborhoods and artisan markets.

Highlight: Stand at the exact spot where the Nile flows out of Lake Victoria — a timeless symbol of discovery and exploration.

After breakfast, travel northeast toward Mbale, a lively town at the foot of Mount Elgon. Along the way, pass River Mpologoma and fertile farmlands.

Upon arrival, check into your lodge and later enjoy a Bagisu cultural experience, featuring storytelling, traditional dances, and a demonstration of the Imbalu (circumcision) ceremony — a rite of passage celebrated with energetic music and community gatherings.

Highlight: Learn about the Bagisu people’s ancient traditions, farming practices, and songs that echo across the Elgon foothills.

After breakfast, head to Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa District — a series of three spectacular waterfalls cascading down the slopes of Mount Elgon. Guided by local experts, embark on a hike to all three falls, enjoying breathtaking views of the valley below.

Later, experience a hands-on coffee tour, learning every step of the process — from picking, drying, and roasting to savoring a fresh cup brewed by local farmers.

Highlight: Taste some of Uganda’s finest Arabica coffee, grown on volcanic slopes and roasted with care by the very hands that cultivate it.

Enjoy an early breakfast before setting off for Kidepo Valley National Park, one of Africa’s most remote yet pristine wildernesses. The journey (7–8 hours) passes through rugged landscapes, rural villages, and sweeping savannahs.

Arrive by evening and settle into your safari lodge overlooking the Narus Valley — where wildlife often grazes just beyond your balcony.

Rise early for a sunrise game drive across Kidepo’s vast plains, where golden light reveals herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and — if you’re lucky — cheetahs and lions.

The park’s isolation means you’ll often feel like you have it all to yourself, surrounded only by nature’s silence and the sound of distant hooves.

Later, visit the Kanangarok Hot Springs, a sacred site within the park, before returning to your lodge for relaxation and an evening by the campfire.

Highlight: Spotting a pride of lions under the acacia trees with Kidepo’s mountain backdrop — one of Africa’s most cinematic safari moments.

During dinner you will be advised on clothes to wear during the trip, you advised to wear dark clothes and avoid colourful clothes.

Today you’ll visit a Karamojong Manyatta, one of the largest traditional homesteads in East Africa. Meet community elders, learn about their pastoralist traditions, and enjoy performances of song and dance.

You can even try your hand at craft-making or milking cattle, and purchase locally made jewelry, sandals, or carved stools as souvenirs.

Highlight: Sharing stories with Karamojong elders under the open sky — a living link to one of Africa’s oldest surviving cultures

After breakfast, begin the scenic drive back to Kampala, passing through Gulu for lunch. En route, cross the Karuma Bridge, where the Nile flows beneath in a series of dramatic rapids — and don’t be surprised to see baboons along the roadside!

Arrive in Kampala by evening and check into your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
