Overview:
We shall take you to different trails and we shall hike from Tutume, Kajeri, Mude. We shall be sleeping at Mude camp for 2 nights and the summit, you will need to have enough rest to gain enough energy. This will not be a circle circuit because we shall be coming out of the mountain after spending 2 nights at mude camp.
This immersive journey begins in Kampala, the cultural heart of Uganda, and unfolds eastward through Jinja’s Nile waters, Mbale’s Elgon foothills, and the cascading Sipi Falls, before culminating in the rugged beauty of Kidepo Valley National Park — one of Africa’s most remote and rewarding wilderness areas.
From royal tombs and tribal dances to coffee farms and wild savannahs, this itinerary captures Uganda’s diversity — its people, wildlife, and spirit.
Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Mt. Elgon starting point in Kween District, starting hiking up to Tutume care.
First day Transfer from Kampala very early in the morning at around 5am we shall reach around 11am, relax have lunch then start the hike. Hike for probably 5 hours set off at 1pmafter Lunch to Tutume cave, arrive at the camp at 5pm and enjoy the cave experience, campfire and rest.
Highlight: Evening views of Kampala’s lively skyline, where modern Africa meets centuries-old tradition.
Day 2: Breakfast in the Morning and setoff to the next camp (Kajeri Camp)
Second day, Breakfast in the morning set off at 8:30am to the next camp (kajeri camp), the hike would take roughly 7-8 hours. The journey would make us encounter birds, rear a few species of animals like antelopes, have lunch either hot or packed. At this point will be heading to low temperatures to an altitude 300 meters above sea level arrive set the tents enjoy the sunset campfire and dinner and rest.
Day 3: This is the longest day of the trip and it involve hiking up to Mude Camp.
Third day, this is the longest day of the trip it involves passing through Moorlands some of the most iconic valleys and the most beautiful caldera, mude caves, arrive at camp knows mude-camp set our tents and then campfire, hot tea/coffee this camp as well is cold we require you to be on you. Put on warm clothes.
Dinner time and rest.
Arrive in Jinja and enjoy lunch overlooking the Nile, then take a boat trip to the Source of the Nile, where the great river begins its 6,650 km journey to Egypt.
In the afternoon, take a community walk through Jinja’s friendly neighborhoods and artisan markets.
Highlight: Stand at the exact spot where the Nile flows out of Lake Victoria — a timeless symbol of discovery and exploration.
Day 4: Head to the Summit to an elevation of 4321 meters above sea level.
Fourth day, this is the day we head to the summit to an elevation of 4321 meters above sea level, passing through the Jackson pool peak and the gorge, as we will be hiking for about 18 kilometres in the total going and coming back to the camp.
We will have lunch at the Jakson pool on our way back from the summit.
And then head to the camp, we will be welcomed by the campfire and some hot water, coffee, tea as well relax to watch the sunset.
Day 5: Heading out and having a break at the wall of death viewpoint snack point.
Fifth day, this is the last day of the trip in the mountain, along but amazing day, heading out and having a break at the wall of death view point snackpoint, as we head to the point where the Boda-bodas will pick you from to the lunch point have lunch and say bye to the porters and their entire persons and Transfer to Kampala.
NOTE
Make sure you carry along with some tablets, on our fast day will be drinking the carried water and rest will be boiled water till last day.
